Long-haul flight hacks

Creative ways to document your travels and my top 3 long-haul flight hacks

I watched The Alipinst which details the life of young Canadian climber, Marc-André Leclerc. He was arguably one of the best climbers in the world, but unlike Alex Honnold or other famous climbers, he was almost always off the radar that hardly anyone ever heard of him until the film came out.

As I watched, I fell in love with his approach to life.

To him, soloing mountains was a spiritual adventure, not just an athletic activity. He didn't climb for the social media selfie or sponsorship; he climbed because it kept him present. The journey mattered more than reaching the summit.

And it got me thinking: if you could go anywhere in the world and not take a single picture or tell a single soul where you were going, where would you go and why?

I bet our answers would surprise us…

Hey, this is Kelsey, founder of SiteSee. I’ll send an email like this every Friday where I’ll share my musings from my travels, the latest research undertaken by our travel writers, as well as recommendations for travel products, interesting podcasts, good reads, and more.

As I prepare to leave Cape Town and head back to the States, I've been brainstorming creative ways to document my favorite moments from this trip. While journaling is my usual go-to, I find that I rarely revisit my entries.

After some research, I stumbled upon a brilliant idea on Instagram: write down three to four cherished memories on postcards and keep them in an easily accessible location, like a box on a coffee table.

I lovvve this idea, so I’m keeping this newsletter short so I can barter my way through the touristy section of Cape Town and collect postcards and other tchotchkes.

But before I do that, I wanted to share a few ways I’m preparing for my upcoming 16-hour flight. These are my top 3 favorite hacks:

  • I’ve downloaded the Brown Noise playlist to help me drift off to sleep. I also use it as background noise for when I need to focus on work.

  • I'm bringing my go-to Bombas compression socks and an eye mask to block out light.

  • I also have a few hour-long meditations from InsightTimer. I swear it's the secret to making time go by way faster on long flights.

Any other long-haul flight hacks you’d like to share? We’re putting together a list and we would love to hear from you. You can simply reply to this email.

Otherwise, thanks for reading and I’ll see you here next week!

xo,

Kelsey
